LAN Design, Support, Administration

Over the years, computer technology has seen an incredible growth in networking. In simplistic terms, networking encompasses everything from 2 PCs sharing a printer to hundreds or thousands of computers of varying types sharing word processing files, databases, Internet connections, and yes, printers.

In the early age of networking technology, networks were configured in one of two types, Dedicated and Peer-To-Peer. Typically, Dedicated networks utilized a single central File Server, which housed data of all kinds. From there, separate network connections would branch out to each individual computer. In contrast, Peer-To-Peer networks rarely utilized a File Server. Instead, they would be a collection of computers cabled to each other and typically shared printers and occasionally files.

In the early years, if you wanted to create a network, you needed special software called a Network Operating System (NOS) and the NOS was typically configured as Dedicated or Peer-To-Peer, but not both.

Today's network environments almost always are a mix of both types. While NOSs are still available (and common) in a business environment, ALL versions of Microsoft Windows now include and support networking right out of the box. SOHO (Small Office Home Office) networks can typically be configured by the end user and need little or no support or administration once they're installed. However, typical business networks are quite another story and need constant support and adminstration. This includes everything from adding or deleting users and security features, to installing, configuring and monitoring a shared broadband Internet connection (and its security).

This is where we come in. We support all network environments from a SOHO to business networks of up to 200 PCs with multiple File Servers. We support all versions of Microsoft Windows, including Windows2000/2003 Server, and various versions of Novell Netware.
